Former Chelsea player Adrian Mutu given more time to pay Stamford Bridge club

The decision by the Federal Tribunal has temporarily suspended an order by sport's highest court for Mutu to compensate the London club after they sacked him in 2004 for using cocaine. The Romania striker has asked the tribunal to overturn a ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport that awarded Chelsea a record sum in damages against him. The tribunal deferred payment pending its decision in the coming days on whether Mutu can put off paying Chelsea until the appeal hearing in November. Mutu, who now plays for Fiorentina, is expected to play a World Cup qualifier on Saturday against Serbia.
