The Elephant man: Guus Hiddink will lead Drogba's Ivory Coast at the World Cup [LNB]Guus Hiddink has agreed to lead the Ivory Coast at the World Cup after being backed for the post by star striker Didier Drogba. [LNB]The former Chelsea boss will sign a short-term contract worth more than £650,000 - subject to difficult negotiations over an early release from his Russia contract, which runs until mid-July. [LNB]Glenn Hoddle, Sven Goran Eriksson and former Ivory Coast boss Philippe Troussier were lined up as alternatives and will now be considered as candidates to lead the side after the World Cup, when Hiddink will take the reins of Turkey on an initial two-year contract. [LNB]Hiddink promised he would not coach a team at the South Africafinals after failure to qualify with Russia, but his U-turn comes afterreceiving the blessing of Arsenal star Andrey Arshavin. [LNB]Vahid Halilhodzic was sacked as Ivory Coast boss after a disappointing show at the Africa Cup of Nations in January.[LNB]Ivoery Coast federation president Jacques Anouma confirmed that the deal for Hiddink had not yet been clinched, but a breakthrough is expected next week.[LNB]'I know you all expect me to tell you the name of the new coach of the Elephants, but I have not yet signed with a coach,' Anouma told reporters.[LNB]'I've actually met many, as mentioned in your various newspapers.
