Forgotten man Kakuta could be the key to Chelsea's pursuit of Marco van Ginkel
As Jose Mourinho gets his feet back under the table at his old desk, the transfer mill that always circulates around Stamford Bridge is beginning to notch up a further gear or two. With Andre Schurrle already netted, the Special One has now cast his gaze on Dutch starlet Marco van Winkel.
It’s thought that Ajax are also interested in the midfielder for next season, but the player’s current club, Vitesse Arnhem, may be keener to do business with the blues as they want to secure the full time signing of Chelsea’s recalcitrant French midfielder Gael Kakuta who is currently on loan with the club,
Kakuta signed for Chelsea in 2007, under a storm of protest for alleged misdeeds in the deal that took him to London from Lens. It resulted in a twelve month transfer ban being imposed on the Chelsea by FIFA. Sad to say, the French international’s career has not really shown that he was worth the aggravation incurred. Making only 16 first team appearances, it became clear that he was not destined for a starring role in west London, a trek around a few continental clubs accrued as loan periods followed. It appears now however that Vitesse would like to end his wonderings and offer him a permanent home in Arnhem. This may suit Chelsea just fine.
If the club could secure van Winkel and offload Kakuta, they will consider it a sound bit of business. The young Dutch player as well as interesting the Blues and Ajax was also thought to be under the radar of Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United scouting network as well, but whether that interest will be continued by David Moyes is yet to be shown.
If the signing goes through, blues fans will think it’s a good sign for Mourinho to be looking at young talent rather than merely the full blown star. Perhaps it indicates that the Portuguese could indeed be putting down roots for a long stay at the Bridge second time round.
Chelsea will use forgotten man Gael Kakuta as makeweight in a deal for Dutch midfielder Marco van Ginkel.
Chelsea want £8m-rated Vitesse Arnhem midfielder Marco van Ginkel and will let Gael Kakuta move in the opposite direction, it was reported today.
The Blues are said to be ahead of Dutch champions Ajax in the race to sign the 20-year-old.
Vitesse Arnhem are demanding Kakuta's loan spell at the Geldredome be turned into a permanent deal, according to The Mirror.
Kakuta has made just 16 appearances for Chelsea since his controversial signing in 2007 from Lens, which saw FIFA hit the Blues with a 12-month transfer ban.
