17 June 2009 14:54
Ancelotti will swiftly be immersed in the rigours of English life, although he is fortunate that his most arduous-looking challenge, Manchester United, does not come until Nov 7 when Chelsea fans will hope a manager with no inkling of the pace of the Premier League will be up to speed. Nothing can prepare a new manager for the sheer relentlessness of the season, the ceaseless combinations of blows raining down. Ancelotti will soon discover that there is no time to pause during games or during the season itself. Brought in by Roman Abramovich to win the Champions League, Ancelotti must still not ease up in the Premier League. Owen Coyle's Burnley will feel they have little fear of Premier League opposition, having excelled against the elite in the cups last season, but their start is undoubtedly awkward, a trip to buoyant Stoke City followed by Manchester United at Turf Moor. All that organisation and camaraderie that Coyle has instilled in his players will be vital. All of Coyle's men will be full of determination and none more so than Chris Eagles, formerly of Old Trafford, for United's visit. Sir Alex Ferguson's champions kick off with Birmingham City, managed by his former centre-half with Aberdeen and Scotland, Alex McLeish. One of the marquee fixtures of the season, United-Arsenal, is early on Aug 29. Liverpool kick off their campaign at Tottenham Hotspur, the home of Robbie Keane, while Arsenal travel to Everton. Wolves' lively fans will be heard loud and proud again in the Premier League with the visit of West Ham. Down below, Newcastle United will instantly be reminded of their loss of status by starting a week earlier with the Football League when they travel to West Brom on Aug 8.
