Fernando Torres will inspire Chelsea youth, claims Frank Arnesen
Chelsea sporting director Frank Arnesen believes the arrival of Fernando Torres can inspire Chelsea's young players.[LNB]Torres, a ?50million signing from Liverpool on transfer deadline day, failed to sparkle on his debut against his former club on Sunday.[LNB]However, Arnesen claims the presence of the Spain striker can only be good news all round for the Stamford Bridge club.[LNB] Feeling Blue: Fernando Torres endured a torrid debut for Chelsea against his old club[LNB]The Dane explained: 'If you can get one of the best strikers in the world to the club everyone is happy. This can give inspiration - a European and world champion, one of the greatest strikers in the world.[LNB]'Young players need to have examples, stars. They think 'I can maybe train with Torres' and they've trained with (Didier) Drogba for seven years. All the young players can learn a lot from them and will do it every day. I only see that as a plus.[LNB]'Because we bring players in, it doesn't close the door for others. We have to make sure the other boys are good enough when the time is right.'[LNB]Up and coming: Josh McEachran is one of those billed for a bright future at Chelsea[LNB]The 54-year-old knows Chelsea 'will always sign players' but believes they are making great strides developing their own talent.[LNB]He continued on BBC Radio Five Live: 'When Roman (Abramovich, owner) set up the academy he always believed in it and gave us time - but on the other hand he knows, wants and demands we win. So you will always sign players from outside.[LNB]'When I spoke to him I asked him what he wanted from me and he said 'in 2010 if we can get a player into the first team squad I will be satisfied'.[LNB]'But if you want to be top you need to have the best players, if you have a lot of youth you probably won't win a lot of trophies - but it's up to the philosophy of club. We want to win everything every year, obviously we need the best players.'[LNB]Arnesen believes the future is bright adding: 'This summer five players came into the first-team squad - Daniel Sturridge is now 21, so he's the oldest of the younger talent. Also there is Jeffrey Bruma, Gael Kakuta, Patrick van Aanholt and Josh McEachran.[LNB]'I've watched Josh since he was 12, when I came here. I've followed him and saw then he was a big, big talent. But you never know how far it goes...how will a player cope when he gets up to the youth team?[LNB] Having a stinker: Frank Arnesen has been widely criticised for his failure to bring through a regular first-team player at Stamford Bridge[LNB]'He did some very good things on tour in pre-season and maybe in half a year we will have to consider him going on loan, probably a little bit sooner to a Premier League club than Sturridge or Kakuta.'[LNB]On his own role, Arnesen added: 'I've been grateful for everything I've done here and been asked to do. There are fantastic people working at the highest level in all departments. It's been a fantastic experience. Have I been a success?
