Fabregas and Costa - The Perfect Transfers
With a combined transfer value of £62 million, the signings of Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas look, even at this early stage of the season, to be a masterstroke by José Mourinho.
I am not quite sure why PSG paid £40M for David Luiz, but with the sale of Lukaku to Everton for £28M, Chelsea has been very shrewd in the transfer window bringing in two world class players. This has now been supplemented with the transfer in of Loic Remy, who is another excellent goal-scorer. The ghost of Fernando Torres will have been well and truly laid to rest, if Chelsea continue this excellent start the season - all the signs are excellent for the club from Stamford Bridge.
The Financial Fair Play system has been easily navigated by Chelsea this year; however my eyebrows are still raised as to just why PSG paid, what in my opinion is, the incredibly inflated price of £40M for a very average defender.
In comparison to Chelsea, Manchester United has spent an incredible £132M on new players this summer and yet the club still appears to have all sorts of problems, failing to register a single win in their opening three matches; and they have yet to play any of the top 4. With QPR, Leicester and West Ham their next three matches you would think their new players have the perfect opportunity to build on the flimsy confidence which is evident at Old Trafford. Their fans know there is now a period of transition at Old Trafford - ironically the same fans who did not buy the transition theory when David Moyes was in charge; But with the reported loan signing of the exciting Columbian Radamel Falcao confirmed today (1.9.14), who is undoubtedly one of the best strikers in the world, United are trying to buy their way out of trouble.
It is very early days in the Premiership and with the hours ticking away this transfer deadline window all the signs are that Costa and Fabregas will prove to be the shrewdest signing made this year. Arsene Wenger may well come to rue the rejection of Cesc Fabregas, after he had first option on the classy Spaniard.
