FA chief hints at Fabio Capello apology to Rio Ferdinand
Under-fire England manager Fabio Capello is expected get in contact with deposed skipper Rio Ferdinand after the international break. [LNB]Capello attracted criticism for the way he handled the change of captaincy in the run-up to Saturday's 2-0 Euro 2012 qualifying win over Wales, which saw John Terry regain the armband. [LNB] No looking back: Terry was reinstated as England captain for the Euro 2012 qualifier against Wales [LNB]The Italian subsequently admitted he could have handled the situation better after failing to communicate with Ferdinand over the change. [LNB]But Club England managing director Adrian Bevington told BBC Radio 5 Live's Sportsweek: 'Fabio is a very experienced manager. [LNB]'He has himself said, I believe, that maybe the communication could have been better and he expressed some regrets. 'The key point is we all have a tremendous amount of respect for Rio Ferdinand both as a player and as an individual. [LNB] Out in the cold: Ferdinand was deposed of the England captaincy by Capello [LNB]'I know Rio very well personally and I look forward to seeing Rio again in an England shirt - and I'm sure Fabio will pick up with Rio soon after these internationals are out of the way.'[LNB] The storm over the captaincy has led some to question Capello's love of the role, which he will relinquish after next summer's European Championship. But Bevington believes the former Real Madrid boss remains as committed as ever. [LNB]Staying put: Bevington insists Capello will honour his contract[LNB]He said: 'I can guarantee that Fabio is very much enjoying the job. He's firmly committed to the job. 'He is aman who has a certain approach to management. [LNB]'Thatapproach has not changed from when he first came into the job and he was heralded for the way in which he went about his business as a manager.[LNB]'Clearly now because of the disappointment people felt in the World Cup, people look to perceive the relationship, with the media in particular, in different ways. 'It was always thus with England managers.'[LNB] Bevington believes the fact Capello is leaving the post after Euro 2012 will not affect the players. He rejected the notion put forward by former England boss Graham Taylor that it would affect Capello's ability to do his job. [LNB]Bevington said: 'The counter-argument to that would be the last time England reached the semi-final of the World Cup was with Sir Bobby Robson and everyone knew on the eve of that tournament, including the players, that Bobby would be leaving at the end of that tournament.[LNB]'It didn't do us too badly in Italy in 1990. I think the players are mature enough to see through this emotional debate. [LNB]'England have started the qualifying campaign in pretty good form. We're top of the group, it's in our hands and we're moving forward very well.'[LNB] Bevington firmly rejected any notion that the FA could dispose of their man prior to Euro 2012. 'I don't understand the debate,' he said.
