Ex-Chelsea boss Ranieri booted out by Juve after failing to peg back Mourinho

Claudio Ranieri could consider a return to England after being sacked by Juventus. The former Chelsea boss was axed after failing to challenge Jose Mourinho's Inter Milan for the Italian league title. Former Juventus defender Ciro Ferrara has been named as Ranieri's temporary replacement. 'Juventus can announce the dismissal of coach Claudio Ranieri. From today the coaching of the first team will be entrusted to Ciro Ferrara,' read a club statement. 'Juventus would like to thank Claudio Ranieri for the job he has carried out over the past two years.' Sunday's 2-2 home draw with Atalanta, which left Juve three points behind second-placed AC Milan with two games left, proved the final straw. Juventus have not tasted victory in the league since the end of March, a run of six draws and a defeat from their last seven game sending their title hopes. That loss of form has also left them just a point ahead of Fiorentina in the race for third spot and guaranteed entry into the Champions League group stage. Juventus were also sent crashing out of the Champions League in the first knockout stage by the Blues. Ranieri took over in Turin two years ago after spells with Parma and Atletico Madrid. He was sacked by Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich in 2005 despite taking them to the Champions League semi-finals.
