Chelsea's midfield powerhouse Michael Essien insists a broken wrist is not enough to keep him on the sidelines.
The Ghanaian suffered the injury during last weekend's Community Shield defeat against Liverpool, but is confident of lining up against Manchester City on the opening weekend of the Premiership season.
"It's sore but it won't stop me playing. I will be ready for the start of the Premiership," Essien told The Sun.
"I'm looking forward to the first game. There are lots of trophies and we have to win at least one this season.
"It would be sad if we didn't win at least one out of the Premiership and Champions League."
The 23-year-old's determination to play through the barrier will please Blues boss Jose Mourinho, as midfield trio Claude Makelele, Joe Cole and Michael Ballack are all currently sidelined by injury.
