    Essien targets title treble

    02 Jan 2007 - 07:26:20

Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien remains confident that the Blues can overhaul Manchester United and win a third Premiership title in a row.

The Blues have dropped off the pace being set by the Red Devils at the top of the table, but Essien remains confident of an upturn in fortunes in the New Year.

He told the News of the World: "Winning the league this season would be our greatest moment.

"It will be our greatest because of all the problems, the setbacks and challenges we've had to overcome this season.

"Not only have Manchester United presented a real challenge, but we have suffered so many difficulties along the way.

"But I remain confident that we can turn it around and be champions once again.

"Manchester United are playing some good football. It's free-flowing and they are scoring goals, but that doesn't mean they'll go on and win the title."

Meanwhile, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has rejected criticism of his decision to allow Robert Huth and William Gallas to leave the club in recent months, with the Blues now short of cover for injured skipper John Terry.

Mourinho said: "Why did I sell Huth and Gallas? It is a good question. There is no answer, there is no answer.

"They are not here any more and to be fair they are both injured at the moment, so if they are both here and injured, we have the same problem."
