Easter backing for Sheva
23 Jan 2007 - 08:28:32
Chelsea are set to hand Andriy Shevchenko a recall for the Carling Cup semi-final second leg meeting with Wycombe and the striker has been tipped to bounce back from his recent troubles by Chairboys ace Jermaine Easter.
Shevchenko has struggled to find his feet in the Premiership following his £30million move from AC Milan in the summer.
The Ukraine international has netted just five goals for the Blues and has been dropped to the bench in recent weeks in favour of Salomon Kalou.
But Easter, who also struggled to adapt at Wycombe after moving from Stockport County 12 months ago before finding his feet this term, has backed Shevchenko to silence his critics.
"It took me a while to settle at Wycombe when I came from Stockport," he said.
"That was a little bit different - he cost £30million and I was 80 grand - but I can understand what he's going through.
"It takes some of the foreign players a long time to adapt but he's a great player and you never lose your class, so I'm sure he'll come good.
"Chelsea aren't having the greatest time at the moment. They've got a few injuries as well so if you were going to pick a time to play them it would probably be now."
