Drogba's humility is a bit rich as agent claims Chelsea chose to keep striker over Big Phil

Chelsea backed Didier Drogba over Luiz Felipe Scolari in a battle of wills, claims the striker's agent. Thierno Seydi, the Ivorian's representative, said: 'One had to go and Chelsea decided to part with Scolari. 'They said that Didier made history at the club and that he could still bring a lot to the team, so they decided to let the coach go and to keep Didier.' Seydi went on to claim that Drogba retains his humility despite being one of the  10 best -aid players in the world. The Chelsea player is thought to earn approximately £100,000 a week, which is some way short of team-mate Frank Lampard's £140,000 a week and Manchester City's Robinho £160,000 a week in the Barclays Premier League. Seydi confirmed Chelsea turned down offers for Drogba in January, saying: 'Since last year there have been firm bids from Inter Milan and Manchester City who offered a golden deal. Didier was OK but Chelsea directors said "No". They refused an £18million transfer offer. 'It proves how much they trust Didier. Roman Abramovich was right to keep Didier because the team are winning again since he's back in. 'Didier is one of the 10 best paid players in the world but humility is part of his personality. I want him to become an African Michel Platini when his career is over, a decision-taker.' Drogba had a dreadful season before the arrival of Guus Hiddink as interim manager. His attitude was questioned after he fell out with former manager Luiz Felipe Scolari but he has been a match-winner since Scolari left last month. Seydi said: 'The fact that he was told to sit on the bench had nothing to do with sport. It was just a problem between two men who couldn't work together. Drogba has admitted he was keen to leave Chelsea last summer but, in the penultimate year of his contract, no deal was agreed with clubs such as AC Milan, who were interested in him.
