Drogba reveals cup doubt
Wednesday Dec 19 2007 08:43

Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has admitted his current knee problem could force him to miss the African Cup of Nations.

Drogba has been named in the initial Ivory Coast squad for the tournament which begins next month in Ghana.

However, he is currently out of action after undergoing surgery to cure a persistent knee problem earlier this month.

Chelsea remain hopeful Drogba will return in early January which would clear him for inclusion in the international tournament, but the Ivory Coast captain is refusing to put a timescale on his recovery.

Drogba has featured in just ten of Chelsea's 17 Premier League games this season after injury and suspension problems.

"I've no idea when I'll play again," he told The Sun.

"No player would go under the knife at this crucial time if it was not serious.

"I can't say really when I'll be back. There's a possibility of missing the African Nations Cup."
