Drogba returns to Chelsea

Didier Drogba looks set for an emotional return to Stamford Bridge for the first time since.

signing off his Chelsea career with the a Champions League winning performance. The Ivorian legend shipped out to Galatasaray in the summer following the Blues victory in Munich against Bayern, and his efforts have taken the Turkish champions into the last sixteen of the tournament, and now to an appointment back in west London. It's been reported that Drogba and returned Chelsea manager met a week or so ago, and both agreed that this draw would be one that they wanted. If that's the case, their wish has come true.

For Blues fans, it's a bit of a double delight. Firstly, the chance to salute their iconic ex-striker is something that will be welcomed by all of the Chelsea faithful. Secondly, and probably just as importantly, it presents the Blues with an eminently tie and progression to the next phase. Whilst Galatsaray will be no pushovers, and are certainly a step up from the Olympiakos team that Manchester United have been paired with, they offer a much less stern test than those facing Arsenal or Manchester City, who drew Bayern Munich and Manchester City respectively.

Chelsea fans will surely be hoping that by the time that the tie rolls round in the new year, the club will have invested in the 'killer' striker that Mourinho has identified as a major missing component in the squad. Without adding such a player, the run in Europe's premier competition is likely to be short, but if someone of the likes of Radamel Falcao could be added to the roster, the Blues' prospects would increase massively. It could be a situation where the old star striker sees he advent of the new talisman.
