Drogba defends Ivory Coast team-mate Toure over failed drugs test

Didier Drogba has launched a staunch defence of Ivory Coast team-mate KoloToure, insisting his failed drugs test was 'a stupid mistake' rather thandeliberate cheating. Manchester City defender Toure, 29, recently tested positive for 'a specified substance' and he was promptly suspended. He has received support from Arsene Wenger, his former manager at Arsenal, whoalso revealed that Toure believes the failed test occurred after he took aslimming tablet belonging to his wife. Back in action: Toure has returned to training at City but remains banned Brother Yaya has spoken in defence of his older sibling and now Chelsea strikerDrogba has stood in his friend's corner. Drogba, in Barcelona to promote his humanitarian foundation at the GlobalSports Forum, said: 'It would be a difficult situation for us if he is bannedbecause he is one of the most important players, one of the oldest, mostexperienced players. 'It would be very difficult for us if something like this happens. 'I think we all know how stupid it was, the mistake, and I don't think he didit to improve his performance. 'I think it was just a mistake and we feel sorry for him and he has all oursupport, and that's the maximum we can do. Suport: Didier Drogba has defended his international team-mate 'I spoke to him and he was down, but that is normal. He said it was just amistake. 'There's not a big difference between what is said by Arsene Wenger and whathe said (to me).' Toure's club Manchester City have kept their counsel on the situation, althoughmanager Roberto Mancini admitted the issue had affected both Toure and histeam-mates. 'I have spoken to him and he is not great at this moment," he said at theweekend.
