Drogba in the dock? Chelsea to learn charges for post-match Barca bust-up

Chelsea are today set to learn if they will be charged for their players' outbursts that followed the Champions League exit to Barcelona. Reports suggest the team will escape a charge of failing to control their players, but Didier Drogba, Michael Ballack, Jose Bosingwa and John Terry could all face bans for their behaviour and comments after the heated clash at Stamford Bridge earlier this month. UEFA have been investigating the events of the semi-final second leg, which saw Barcelona progress on away goals after a 1-1 draw, and its control and disciplinary body are ready to outline the charges and investigation that will follow. Drogba, who had been substituted, confronted referee Tom Henning Ovrebo at the final whistle and swore in front of a TV camera; Ballack chased the referee after Ovrebo had rejected a fourth disputed penalty claim;captain Terry questioned the suitability of the referee;and Bosingwa questioned whether Ovrebo was a 'thief' in a post-match interview, but later apologised. Drogba also apologised but is likely to face the heftiest penalty, which could include a fine and suspension from several European matches at the start of next season. UEFA will outline the possible charges plus the timetable for investigation and, potentially, a date when the hearings will take place. The circumstances of the match, with Chelsea knocked out in the 93rd minute, has been taken into account, UEFA insist.
