Drogba: I want to stay at Chelsea as long as they want me
Chelsea striker Didier Drogba insists he wants to stay at Stamford Bridge as long as the club want him.
The controversial forward has endured a mixed season and hasconsistently been linked with a move to Inter Milan to join up againwith former coach Jose Mourinho. However, Drogba claims he hopes tocontinue firing Chelsea to more success.
'I believe the future of Chelsea will be splendid because we have created something for which now many want to come to Chelsea,' he told Sky Italia.
'They know that when they come here every year they have to fight to win trophies.
"This club was already historical but it will become even more so.
'I am very proud to be part of all of it and I want to stay here as long as they want me.'
Drogba was plagued by injuries and a lack of form in the first half of the campaign, while he was also overlooked by then coach Luiz Felipe Scolari in favour of Nicolas Anelka.
Since Guus Hiddink replaced Scolari Drogba has enjoyed a rejuvenation of sorts, but he insists he has nothing against his former coach.
'Sometimes things don't go how you want them to,' he added. 'I can't be angry with him because it was a choice and the manager's choices should be respected.
'A coach has 22 players at his disposition. he has to make decisions and I think that his weren't bad because Anelka was scoring.
'I couldn't say anything, I had to only wait my turn.'
Despite returning to form the controversies have continued apace and yesterday Drogba was charged by UEFA over his comments about Norwegian referee Tom Henning Ovrebo at the end of Chelsea's Champions League exit to Barcelona.
It is not the first time the 31-year-old has faced disciplinary action as he was handed a three-match ban for throwing a coin back into the stands in his side's defeat to Burnley back in November, while he was also sent off in the Champions League final last year for slapping Manchester United defender Nemanja Vidic.
However, Drogba claims such behaviour is out of character for him.
He added: 'Luckily it doesn't happen often to me, but sometimes it happens that you lose control and do something which you regret as soon as the match finishes.'
Despite Drogba's insistence he wants to remain at Chelsea, speculation is set to continue this summer that the Ivory Coast international will be reunited with Mourinho - a man he credits with the success of his career.
'Mourinho was very important,' said Drogba. 'When I was playing at Marseille, we came up against Porto and he saw me play.
'Even though they beat us we played a good game, I scored and played well. I think that from that day he sent a scout to follow me in the UEFA Cup games.
'He knew how I was playing and when I had to decide between staying at Marseille or going to Chelsea, he told me "you are a good player but if you want to become one of the best strikers in the world, at the level of (Ruud) Van Nistelrooy and Thierry Henry, you have to move to a stronger team".
'Just by saying that he impressed me a lot.
'Then he did a lot for me, when I was going through difficult times he was always there and I paid him back on the pitch.
That's why we had such a fruitful relationship.'
Mourinho has made no secret of his admiration for Drogba and the fact he would love to have him at the San Siro, and the Inter coach believes he was lucky to coach such a player.
'It's easy for a coach to work with a player that has this type of character,' said Mourinho. 'Because he is someone born to work, to win, to be loyal, a friend, a team player.
'At Chelsea I has the good fortune to have Drogba and four or five others of the same character and so it was very easy to work.
'He can talk very well of me, I thank him for that, but I also have so many reasons to thank him and all those who were with me at Chelsea.
'My last day at Chelsea I saw this giant of two metres who seems to be a superhuman crying like a baby.'
