Dour Gunners shock Jose
11 Dec 2006 - 08:01:39
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho was disappointed by Arsenal's defensive attitude towards Sunday's London derby and claimed there was only one team that wanted to win the game.
The Gunners did take the lead with 12 minutes left through Mathieu Flamini's strike, but a brilliant Michael Essien effort ensured the points were shared, and Chelsea almost claimed all three points in stoppage time when Frank Lampard and Essien hit the woodwork.
After the game Mourinho said: "Arsenal had quality, organisation and control, but ambition to win? No. Only one team tried to win the game.
"It is a surprise for a big team to come to Stamford Bridge and be very happy just to get a point.
"If Arsenal win their game in hand, there will still be 15 points between them and Manchester United, so I think it is impossible for them to be champions.
"We are disappointed, because we had so many chances, but if we beat Newcastle on Wednesday, we will be only five points behind United.
"It was two points lost against Arsenal. We never play for a point. We want to win every match and any draw is a dropped point.
"We are disappointed we did not win, and with luck we would have got our rewards. We hit the woodwork three times.
"On chances and balance the difference was huge in our favour - it's not fair but we will not cry."
