The papers are reporting that Chelsea are close to signing Douglas Costa after having their opening bid rejected. Jose Mourinho did say he was not doing any business in January but it could be that the manager couldn’t pass up the opportunity if the price was right and they moved other players on.

The Shakhtar Donetsk attacking midfielder would seem to be a major target for the Blues if the reports are to be believed and the player himself has stated via GoloboEsporte: "To play at Chelsea is a dream for any player."

The initial bid from Chelsea is thought to be £16million which has since been raised to £18.7million to ensure they get their target.

Douglas Costa, not to be confused with Diego may well fancy getting out of the Ukraine given the troubles in the area and the 24-year-old Brazilian still represents great value and has helped Shaktar to numerous trophies including a domestic treble.

Costa skills, tricks and goals:

The report suggests that both Mohamed Salah and Andre Schuerlle are set to leave the club to make room for Costa.
