Donal MacIntyre's wife tells court gang 'attacked him like a pack of wolves'

The wife of investigative journalist Donal MacIntyre broke down in tears as she told a court how a gang of thugs set upon him like 'a pack of wolves' in a brutal vengeance attack.[LNB]Giving evidence yesterday against a father and daughter accused of being the ringleaders of the assault, in which she too was injured, Ameera McIntyre, 32, said: 'The men who attacked my husband were going to kill him.'[LNB]James Wild, 47, and his 23-year-old daughter Caley, 25, are facing separate charges for the alleged assault, said to have been in revenge for a 1999 documentary by Mr McIntyre on the Chelsea Headhunters hooligan 'firm', which resulted in thejailing of thug Jason Marriner for six years.[LNB] James Wild and Caley Wild leaving Guildford Crown Court yesterday[LNB]Mr Wild denies three counts including taking revenge, assault on Mr McIntyre causing actual bodily harm and assault causing actual bodily harm to Mrs McIntyre. Caley Wild denies one count of assault by beating.[LNB]Speaking from a secure video suite at Guildford Crown Court, a distraught Mrs McIntyre wept as she recalled the horrific scene. She told the court: 'I had been crying in the toilet after these men approached me and my husband at the table. They were shouting things about Jason Marriner and saying Donal was a grass.[LNB]'Donal had followed me to the ladies and he was trying to console me. Then when we left the ladies', there was a group of them and they surrounded Donal. They descended on him like a pack of wolves.[LNB]Attack: Donal MacIntyre leaves court[LNB]'He was pushed to the floor in the doorway and was being punched and kicked viciously. It was a sea of people and while they were kicking him they kept saying, "Get him - this is for Jason".'[LNB]Jurors heard that Mr MacIntyre got up and rushed outside, having had his clothes ruined in the alleged attack.[LNB]Under cross examination from Mr Gregory Fishwick, defending James Wild, Mrs McIntyre said: 'I live through this every day - it has ruined my life.' Mr Fishwick alleges that Donal McIntyre pushed his wife out of the way before lunging at Wild who had reacted to Mr McIntyre's 'confrontational posture'. [LNB]Caley Wild claims she did not throw any punches and had gone out of the bar to try to break up any violence. Defending her, Mr Gideon Cammerman began his cross examination of Mrs McIntyre yesterday. He said: 'My client was pushing Mr McIntyre away from the scuffle. At no point did she throw any punches. In fact, she went out of her way to make an effort to stop the fighting.'[LNB]The court heard that Mrs McIntyre, who suffers from a brain tumour, and her husband were in the Cloud 9 bar in Hampton Court , when the gang pounced. They were having a quiet drink together as they prepared for a scan she was due to have at the hospital the following morning.
