Didier Drogba agrees new Chelsea deal

According to the Sun, the deal is expected to be announced within the next few days and will be worth over £100,000 a week. It represents a remarkable change in fortune for the Ivory Coast international who at one point looked set to leave Stamford Bridge after publically criticising owner Roman Abramovich for Jose Mourinho's departure. Drogba also did not see eye to eye with either of Mourinho's replacements - Avram Grant and Luiz Felipe Scolari - and expressed his desire to return to Marseille, the club that he left to join Chelsea. However, under interim manager Guus Hiddink, Drogba found a new lease of life and now Carlo Ancelotti, who attempted to sign the 30-year-old while coach of AC Milan, has tied him down to a new deal as Chelsea look to wrestle the Premier League title away from Manchester United and challenge for Champions League honours. United manager Sir Alex Freguson certainly believes Chelsea will offer his side their biggest challenge in retaining the Premier League trophy and dismissed the threat posed by Rafa Benitez's Liverpool. Ferguson said: "It will be hard for them to match last season, let alone improve on it. Other teams will know more about them. "Liverpool had probably their best season for 20 years and still finished four points adrift. "It has to be Chelsea as the main threat. Ancelotti will change how they play. "They will play the Milan way. It brought him two European Cups - it should have been three, because they should never have lost to Liverpool. So why should he change?"
