His side earned a hard fought-for point at the Emirates against Arsenal. "We have had a crazy schedule in the past six days," he said.
"Spurs at Wembley in the FA Cup, Barcelona in the Champions League and t a very tough game away to Arsenal in the league.
"It was a brilliant performance.
"It was a shame that we did not have the quality at the front end to score."
Di Matteo made a number of a changes to is side but rejected the notion he was not taking this game seriously - Chelsea face Barcelona in the second leg of the semi-final on Tuesday.
"It is simply not possible to play the same players," he insisted.
"At the moment we have a lot of players available.
"Their is enough quality in the squad to cope with these games.
"Only time will tell if we tire."
One of the major absentees was striker Didier Drogba who tormented Barcelona in midweek.
Di Matteo was somewhat cagy in his response to the question about Drogba's fitness. "I don't know about Didier," he said.
"He has a knee injury and I'm unsure about Tuesday (whether he will play). Di Matteo was happy to take to task the suggestion of Wenger's that Chelsea were ultra defensive.
"I think if you look at the statistics we had as many chances and corners as them.. we looked dangerous on the break and could have snatched it if we showed a bit of quality upfront.
"But under the circumstances we have to be pleased with the point - it was one gained in our search for fourth place in the league.
"When I took over, I knew it was going to be tough to reach that target.
"But we will try and win our games and see what the other teams do."
Fernando Torres replaced Drogba in the starting one-up and Di Matte heaped praise on his misfiring hit-man.
"Torres worked very hard for the team. And I am very pleased with him. "But we showed a great collective spirit today. Also the partnership of Gary Cahill and John Terry is looking stronger after every game they play together."
