Deja vu for Mourinho as David Luiz returns to haunt Chelsea

Jose Mourinho's dream of finally winning the Champions League with his beloved Chelsea ended on Wednesday night at the hands of Laurent Blanc's PSG who went through to the quarter finals on away goals after extra time.

A first half Ibrahimovic red card looked like it would make easy work for Chelsea to gain the victory, however it took them till late on through Gary Cahill to score the goal that would put them through.

That was until five minutes later when former player David Luiz thumped a powerful header past Thibaut Courtois. The Brazilian international couldn't contain his emotion and celebrated against his old club, perhaps as a reminder to Mourinho who sold Luiz to PSG last summer.

An Eden Hazard penalty in Extra time looked to booked the blues a place in the next round, only for Thiago silva to score a looping header with five minutes to go to put the French side through.

It was a game which contained more fighting than football. Even the Chelsea fans were feeling frustrated that their team were not producing the kind of hardworking and determined performance they're capable of.

With PSG not having the dominant domestic season they were hoping for, some saw this as more of a walk in the park than a backs to the wall job.

But once again it brings the subject matter up that Mourinho just cannot win the champions league with Chelsea, they haven't even been to a final under him.

Is he really a "genius"? Of all the things he's managed to accomplish in football this particular hurdle remains to be one he just can't get over. Given that they've just won the League cup against a high-flying Tottenham side with the in-form Harry Kane, and worked their tactics to a T, while still going strong in their quest for the league title, it leaves the utmost avid football fan scratching their head.

To make matters worse in something almost too ironic, the previous night Chelsea legend Roberto Di Matteo (who won the champions league with Chelsea against all the odds, while caretaker manager) led his Schalke side to an Astonishing 4-3 victory over Mourinho's former team and current holders Real Madrid. That may just sting a little...

It remains to be seen whether this result will have a detrimental effect on the rest of Chelsea's season. Will Mourinho have his men all guns blazing to win the league in solid fashion? Or will the blues now stutter and concede the last trophy they can get?

What is still a fact is that whatever Mourinho finds success in during the rest of his career, he wont be completely satisfied unless he can lift the curse and make the west Londoners European Champions.
