Carlo Ancelotti's confirmation as Chelsea boss has been put off by AC Milan's failure to confirm a top-three finish in the Italian league. Extra-time: Carlo Ancelotti still has work to do at AC Milan The San Siro club had hoped to make an announcement today about their head coach's future on the assumption that they would beat Roma at the weekend to guarantee their place in the group stage of Europe's premier competition. But Milan were beaten 3-2, leaving them needing a point at fellow Champions League-place chasers Fiorentina in the final match to secure their place. Ancelotti and Rossoneri owner Silvio Berlusconi both said after thematch that there we be no discussion of the future until after nextSunday's match. The match comes a day after Guus Hiddink's farewell in the FA Cup Final against Everton at Wembley and Chelsea hope to unveil their new coach early next week. After the Roma defeat, Ancelotti said: 'The future? There's not need to talk about this today. 'We will talk about this after the game in Florence. 'We were one step away from the Champions League and instead we have to do what we wanted to avoid: play for the matter in Florence. 'We have made our lives complicated, but we hope to rectify Sunday.' Berlusconi insisted there would be no talks until after the season finale, but indicated that Milan wouldn't resist if Ancelotti wanted to go. 'With Carlo we decided that we will sit around a table at the end of the league and we will take a decision,' said the Italian prime minister. 'We are the club that have always more respected the coaches' will. But now we don't talk about a decision that must be already taken. 'Let me wait for the end of the season and taking decisions that will emerge from the meeting of our will and our perspectives.'
