Cole - I let Mourinho down

21 July 2009 11:51
Ashley Cole has revealed that he feels he let former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho down by failing to repay the Portuguese manager's faith in him. The two men will come head-to-head when the Blues take on Mourinho's current side Inter Milan on Tuesday with both teams based in America during pre-season. The former Porto boss controversially signed the 28-year-old from London rivals Arsenal back in 2006 for £5million in a deal which saw William Gallas move in the other direction. Mourinho, Cole and Chelsea were all hit with fines by the Premier League after the Gunners accused the Blues of tapping-up the England international. Cole has excelled since Mourinho departed Stamford Bridge but the left-back admits that he still feels guilty that he never performed to his full potential under the 'Special One'. Confidence"He took me from a rival club and had the confidence to buy me," he told the London Evening Standard. "I didn't play well under him and I was sad to see him go because I wanted to prove to him and everyone else I was the right guy that he bought. "I am sad that I didn't repay him."
