Chelsea

In: Gary Cahill (Bolton, £7m), Kevin de Bruyne (Genk, £9m), Patrick Bamford (Nottingham Forest, undisclosed)

Out: Alex (Paris St Germain, £4m), Josh McEachran (Swansea, loan), Gael Kakuta (Dijon, loan) Nicolas Anelka (Shanghai Shenhua, free), Patrick van Aanholt (Vitesse, loan), Philipp Prosenik (AC Milan, undisclosed), Milan Lalkovic (ADO Den Haag, loan)

Verdict: The signing of Gary Cahill could be just what they needed. They also brought in highly rated youngsters de Bruyne and Bamford to replace older players like Alex and Anelka. The lack of fire power up front could still come back to haunt Chelsea, who despite trailing behind the two Manchester clubs and Tottenham are still hopeful of mounting a title challenge.
