Chelsea's Andrei Shevchenko to forgo £5m wages in return to Dynamo Kiev
The striker held talks with Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti earlier this week and was told he could not be guaranteed first-team football. Rather than see out the final year of his deal, Shevchenko will forego his £120,000-per-week wages and quit now. [LNB]It had been thought that the Ukrainian would ask for Chelsea to subsidise his salary at his new club he has also held talks with Monaco but that has not happened. But neither will Chelsea receive a fee for the striker who cost them £31 million three years ago. "He would like to play with continuity here but it is difficult for me to give him the possibility to play a lot of matches and he will take the right decision for him. Sheva didn't have the possibility to play consistently so he has taken the decision to go."[LNB]Chelsea insist that the discussion was amicable and Ancelotti has frequently spoken of his respect for Shevchenko, who played under him at Milan winning the Champions League and also last season at the San Siro on loan. [LNB]During Chelsea's pre-season tour to the United States, Ancelotti had suggested that it was likely that Shevchenko would leave the club before the transfer window closed. [LNB]Chelsea remain interested in signing Bayern Munich's Franck Ribéry but, it is believed, have no intention of increasing their offer of £40 million for the France international. [LNB]The arrival of Real Madrid's Arjen Robben at Bayern has led to suggestions that Ribéry may leave now. But it remains more likely that the German club will hold on to him for one more season, unless a deal can be struck with Real which would also include another of their players, Rafael van der Vaart, joining Robben.
