Chelsea veteran Lampard agrees to join New York City on a free transfer
Frank Lampard has sensationally decided to sign for New York City in the MLS.
The highly decorated midfielders contract has expired at Chelsea and has been told that he will not be handed an extension on his current deal.
Lampard was at Manchester City’s Carrington training ground, along with Athletico Madrid Striker David Villa. Both players were finalising some of the formalities ahead of the signing.
Frank Lampard joined Chelsea from West Ham in 2001 for £11million. He has become the London sides top goal scorer with 211 goals from midfield.
The 35 year old has gone on to win three Premier League titles, four FA cups, two league cups, one Champions League and the Europa League.
Jose Mourinho is keen to add to his midfield following Lampards departure and would like a world-class player to partner Nemanja Matic. Players being linked to replace Lampard are Bayern Munich’s Toni Kroos, Read Madrid’s Sami Khedira, Juventus’ Paul Pogba and Yaya Toure from Manchester City.
Following the sale of David Luiz to PSG for £40million there are some sufficient funds available for Mourinho. One player who looks to be joining the Blue’s midfield is Tiago. Their former midfielder is available on the free transfer following his current deal expiring at the end of the month.
