Chelsea v Basel : Europa League Match Preview
Chelsea had a number of chances throughout the game but they may have left Basel feeling robbed after an 87th minute penalty drew the Swiss League leaders level. The 94th minute strike from Luiz meant Chelsea left Switzerland with two vital away goals.
Never has a team won the Champions League and Europa League in successive seasons and Chelsea will see this as one way to resurrect what has been a disappointing season.
Rafa Benitez will be looking to finish his interim spell on a high by reaching the final at the Amsterdam Arena as well as cementing a place in the top four in the league.
Chelsea will go into the game looking for a second home win in five days after defeating Swansea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge.
Basel, meanwhile, suffered a 3-0 defeat at home to Lucerne in the Swiss Super League on Sunday.
Benitez's side have failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 11 European matches and their defence will be missing Ashley Cole, who is suspended for the return leg.
Ryan Bertrand is likely to replace Cole and with a visit to Old Trafford on Sunday, Benitez may make changes to the side from the Swansea match.Victor Moses, who scored the opener in Basel, could make a return. Fernando Torres will lead the attack as Demba Ba is ineligible to play, after playing in the competition with Newcastle earlier in the season.
Basel are expected to make little changes to their side, with the midfield and forward line expected to be the same as last Thursday. Last week they played an open, attacking style of football and their front three will look to repeat their last performance in London, where they scored two away goals against Tottenham in the quarter-final.
