Chelsea target two teen sensations
Chelsea recently signed 18-year-old Bertrand Traore and are now looking at 19-year-old Lazar Markovic and 16-year-old Pedro Delgado who play for Mourinho’s previous clubs Benfica and Inter Milan.
Winger Lazar Markovic is already a full Serbia international and has been praised for his performances for Benfica. He was linked with Chelsea while still at Partizan Belgrade and has previously stated his love for the Premier League. ‘I can tell you that I love the Premier League and I see it as an ideal stage for me.’
Attacking midfielder Pedro Delgado joined Inter Milan this summer from Portuguese side Portimonense on a three year deal and is touted as an excellent prospect for the future.
It now looks like Chelsea and Mourinho are looking to invest in the future as oppossed to paying over the odds for more experienced players. The club has come under criticism in the past for trying to buy silverware with the £50 million signing of Fernando Torres being the highest paid for a player who has yet to prove his worth.
There is still a need for experienced players with a defensive midfielder and a striker top priority for Mourinho in January but the future is also looking promising with top quality young players.
Chelsea’s squad is beginning to age with Lampard, Terry and Essien being on the wrong side of 30 but with the investment being made in youth players there is promise for the future.
