Chelsea set to bid 60 million for Paul Pogba
One reason why Chelsea are keen to sign the Frenchman is that he fits under the Premier League academy status, just like their other new recruit Cesc Fabregas. This means it does not have an impact on the Financial FairPlay rules imposed by UEFA.
Pogba currently plays in one of the best midfields in Europe, featuring Arturo Vida, Claudio Marchiso and Andrea Pirlo. The 21-year-old has established himself to be one of the best young central midfielders in the world.
Pogba has all the attributes to become a true great. He’s powerful, can tackle, has an extensive passing range and has good skills with the ball. All of this makes him a very attractive option for any side.
Chelsea sometimes struggled in the central midfield last season to really impose themselves and to move the ball quickly to their attackers. The addition of Nemanja Matic in January proved to be a great acquisition. Jose Mourinho could perhaps boast a midfield three of Matic, Fabregas and Pogba next season which would really enhance their Premier League and European ambitions.
Following Chelsea releasing a lot of high wage earners and selling David Luiz for £50million, there are certainly funds at Mourinho’s disposal.
A cheaper alternative could be Bayern Munich’s Toni Kroos, who could be available for as little as £15-20million.
