Chelsea open talks with stunning return for Didier Drogba
Chelsea have opened discussions about bringing back Didier Drogba back to Stamford Bridge.
Jose Mourinho wants to bring back the Ivorian as his second striker and try to entice him by giving him coaching responsibilities. Being a manager is something Drogba has always been open to and what better way than to learn under his former mentor.
Drogba’s last kick of a ball for Chelsea was to score the winning penalty in the 2012 Champions League Final.
Mourinho wants an extra striker with the departure of Samuel Eto'o, while Demba Ba and Romelu Lukaku are expected to leave even if only on temporary deals. Fernando Torres is keen to stay despite interest from Inter Milan.
Chelsea have already signed Diego Costa this summer, but Lukaku is not seen to be ready to lead the line at the club yet. The London side could look to sell the Belgian and then bring in another top quality striker. But if there isn’t a striker available this summer Drogba could be seen as a short term option.
The 36 year old has a host of offers from Qutar, the MLS and clubs in Italy. But the appeal of returning to a club that he loved and the fans adored him would be a good way to finish his illustrious career.
