Chelsea need a priest, says the Church

The Rev Alan Wright, who provides support for Scunthorpe Utd, says Chelsea should take on a chaplain as Mandrake learns of plans to extend pastoral support for players across the country. It is no secret that footballers are not necessarily gifted with the highest levels of intelligence.' Matt Baker, the pastoral support director for English football, says there are 110 chaplains and the Football League is keen to extend its pastoral care. A Chelsea spokesman says a chaplain would be difficult because it is a club 'that is proud of our multi-religious and multi-cultural background'.
