Chelsea losing hope of tempting AC Milan legend Maldini to Stamford Bridge
Chelsea have admitted they are not confident of luring Italian legend Paolo Maldini to Stamford Bridge. The former AC Milan defender, who retired this summer, was tipped to follow boss Carlo Ancelotti to London to form a new-look coaching set-up. Maldini is exploring his options ending his glittering 25-year career but Chelsea coach Ray Wilkins does not believe he will join them just yet. 'I know him well and had the pleasure of playing with him, but I don't know if he'll come,' admitted former Milan player Wilkins. Doubts: Ray Wilkins 'He's a very good friend of Carlo but I think it's too soon after his playing career - he wants a rest.' Maldini, 40, speaks good English and will not be short on offers after more than 900 appearances for Milan and a record 126 caps for his country. Ancelotti is happy to work with Italian-speaking Wilkins but would like to add some fellow countrymen to his backroom staff.
