Chelsea disaster Scolari lined up to be Real Madrid's new manager

Cristiano's mentor: Ronaldo shares a smile with the then Portugal boss Luiz Felipe Scolari before Euro 2008 Luiz Felipe Scolari's poor performance as Chelsea manager has not put off the Brazilian being linked to the Real Madrid hot seat. Big Phil's strong relationship with Bernabeu star Cristiano Ronaldo would make him a strong candidate to step in if Manuel Pellegrini is sacked. The next three matches could decide the current coach's future and anything but wins against Racing Santander on Saturday and Zurich in midweek would put huge pressure on the Chilean going in to the 'Clasico' against Barcelona on November 29. Scolari is reportedly the world's best-paid coach, with some estimates valuing his 18-month stint with Uzbekistan champions Bunyodkor at £17million when taking into account the cash he still draws from Chelsea. The 61-year-old shares an agent - Jorge Mendes - with Ronaldo and Spanish magazine Don Balon expects there will be lobbying for Scolari should the vacancy arise. Kaka is another potential ally from his time working under the coach during Brazil's 2002 World Cup success. Friend: Real Madrid star Kaka has previously worked under Scolari However, Scolari recently said Pellegrini should be given more time. Asked if he would say yes to Madrid, Scolari told Spanish newspaper AS: 'I'd say to Madrid that they should give Pellegrini the conditions to show what he has already done at Villarreal. 'If Madrid want to win the league and be a great team they must follow the initial plan. You cannot keep changing the coach every four or five months for losing a game.' The well-travelled boss saw his reputation diminished when he was sacked in February, just seven months into a three-year contract at Chelsea. Beleaguered Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez remains the man many Madrid fans would like to see as their next head coach.  Cristiano Ronaldo returns to Real Madrid training and now looks certain to win fitness battle for Barcelona clashPellegrini facing quit calls as Real Madrid slump to Copa del Rey defeatRONALDO SPECIAL: Who is my toughest opponent?
