Chelsea deny making 33m bid for Sergio Ramos and say Real defender was offered to them!
Keen to reign in Spain: Real Madrid's Sergio Ramos Chelsea have distanced themselves from reports in Spain that they have launched a dizzying £33million bid for Real Madrid right back Sergio Ramos. The 24-year-old is understood to be keen on signing a new contract at the Bernabeu and his case will have been done no harm by Spanish newspaper Marca reporting a mammoth offer from the Barclays Premier League champions. However, Chelsea sporting director Frank Arnesen insists there has been no bid and revealed that the player had in fact been offered to them. 'It is absolutely false,' Arnesen told Real Madrid president Florentino Perez, according to Spanish newspaper AS. 'We haven't made any bid for Ramos. 'What did surprise us is that a person called us on behalf of the player to see if we were interested in signing him.' Ramos joined Real Madrid from Sevilla for a whopping £18m five years ago but found his future brought into question this summer by Jose Mourinho's pursuit of Inter Milan right back Maicon. Asked by Marca about Chelsea's supposed offer, he said today: 'There's no truth in it. I had a dream of winning the World Cup and I achieved it. Now I have another: to retire playing at Madrid.'
