Chelsea dealt major blow as Borussia Dortmund insist Neven Subotic is going nowhere

EXCLUSIVEChelsea's hopes of shoring up their suspect defence with a January move for the new Nemanja Vidic have been dashed by his club Borussia Dortmund. Alarmed at the way goals have been conceded during their recent slump in form, worried Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has earmarked Neven Subotic as a possible solution to his side's defensive ills and reportedly tested Dortmund with a £17.5million bid. Arsenal have also been linked with the 6ft 4in central defender, who has already been capped 20 times by Serbia and is tipped to develop into an even more commanding figure than his countryman, Manchester United lynchpin Vidic. Aware that United and Real Madrid figure just as prominently on his list of admirers, Chelsea attempted to steal a march on their rivals with an approach they hoped might tempt Dortmund. But with Dortmund in sight of their first Bundesliga title for nearly a decade, after finishing the first half of the campaign with a 10-point lead over second-placed Mainz, they were given short shrift.  City set to pounce for 'Panther' Barrios after sounding out Dortmund Chelsea ready to pip United in £17.5m bid for Dortmund stopper Subotic Club-by-club guide to every Premier League transfer deal during JanuaryAll the latest Chelsea news, features and opinion  Explore more:People: Nemanja Vidic, Carlo Ancelotti
