    Chelsea confirm Carvalho blow

    26 Mar 2010 - 07:07:43

Chelsea have confirmed that Portuguese central defender Ricardo Carvalho will be out for at least a month due to an ankle injury.

The 31-year-old stopper had to be replaced shortly before half-time of the 5-0 victory at Portsmouth and subsequent tests have shown up ligament damage which may yet necessitate surgery.

A short statement on the club's official website confirmed: "Chelsea Football Club can confirm that Ricardo Carvallho suffered ankle ligament damage in the game against Portsmouth.

"The club will be able to determine over the next 24 hours whether the injury requires corrective surgery, however we can confirm at this point that he'll be out for at least four weeks."

Blues head coach Carlo Ancelotti had said after the Fratton Park romp: "Ricardo turned his ankle. We don't know now if it's a big problem or not."
