Chelsea Cech out Spurs keeper Gomes as blunder boy Petr heads for exit

Chelsea were today said to be lining up a sensational summer move for Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes after losing patience with Petr Cech. Cech, who signed for the Blues from Rennes in 2004, is going through the worst spell of his career and has conceded seven goals in his last two games. The Czech Republic international only signed a five-year deal last year but with Carlo Cudicini joining Spurs in January, a new keeper is Chelsea's main priority. Incredibly, London's Evening Standard reports that the Blues are keen on Cudicini's team-mate Gomes, who has apparently impressed in the last few months after overcoming a difficult start to his first season in English football. Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink, who is advising the club on who they should buy even though he has yet to commit his long-term future to Stamford Bridge, has previously spoken highly of the Brazil international, having signed him in 2004 when in charge at PSV. Last November, Hiddink said: 'Gomes is exceptional and was almost single-handedly responsible for getting PSV to the Champions League semi-finals. He is not afraid and has fantastic reflexes.' However, the coach today said there was 'no single grain of truth' in the story that Gomes would replace Cech at Stamford Bridge.
