Chelsea blast six past Baggies

Premier League champions Chelsea have sounded an ominous warning after they started their 2010/11 campaign with a resounding 6-0 win over West Bromwich Albion at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.

Blues manager Carlo Ancelotti will have pleased with what he witnessed as Didier Drogba hammered in a hat-trick, Florent Malouda grabbed a brace and England midfielder Frank Lampard got in on the act in London.

His side started in fine fashion as Malouda tapped home John Obi Mikel's pass after Baggies goalkeeper Scott Carson spilled Drogba's effort inside six minutes.

Drogba then slammed home a free-kick on the stroke of half-time as West Brom's defensive wall broke tamely.

Ten minutes after the break, Drogba notched his second after more poor West Brom defending and talisman Lampard opened his account by finishing off a cool passing move.

Ivorian Drogba ensured he would leave with the match ball as his deflected strike hit the back of Carson's net to put the Blues in dreamland with 20 minutes remaining.

In stoppage time, France winger Malouda notched his second as he rounded the stricken Carson to add icing to Chelsea's cake.
