Chelsea to trade de Bruyne for Schuerrle

Chelsea are set to sign Germany wing Andre Schuerrle from Bayer Leverkusen and loan Belgium midfielder Kevin de Bruyne to the Bundesliga club, their CEO Wolfgang Holzhaeuser has said in a report on Thursday.

"We have agreed with Chelsea. They will buy Schuerrle for a specific transfer fee and in return they will lend us de Bruyne for one year. I presume Chelsea will do what we have agreed," Holzhaeuser told local newspaper Rheinischen Post.

Holzhaeuser revealed the deal had stalled because the 21-year-old de Bruyne, who has spent the season on loan from Chelsea at Werder Bremen, had favoured a transfer to Dortmund.

"If we find no equivalent alternative for Andre, we will not let him go," said Holzhaeuser, as Schuerrle played in Germany's 4-2 win against Ecuador in Florida on Wednesday in their two-match tour of the USA.

"A deal is a deal, we know the player well and Kevin is the player we want to bring in.

"We have tried to sign him from Chelsea for the last two years."
