Chelsea to step up bid for hard-tackling Imbula

22-year-old French U-21 international Giannelli Imbula is reported to again be of interest to Chelsea who want to bring him to Stamford Bridge in the summer.

The box-to-box midfielder has drawn comparison with Patrick Viera as a ball-winner who can turn defence into attack from deep. Those admirable comparisons also make him naturally of interest to Arsenal as well as Juventus.

The £20million-rated player did come close to a switch to Chelsea for just £1million but the deal went south after Chelsea were unable to meet the players demands for first team football. The Sun reports that the player is being considered to play alongside Nemaja Matic next season and that a deal looks likely to happen this time.

Imbula, who was born in Belgium has gone from strength to strength under Marcelo Bielsa at Marseille and is eligible to play for Belgium, France or DR Congo. The player joined Marseille in 2013 and has gone on to make 60 league appearances and scored 3 league goals and joined the Ligue 1 side from Guimgamp where he became the youngest player in Ligue 2 history at 17.
