Chelsea star Essien reveals punishing regime as he edges closer to a return

Michael Essien has revealed he is undergoing a gruelling training regime in a bid to return for Chelsea after months on the sidelines.[LNB]The Ghanaian midfielder hasn't turned out for the Blues since their Champions League clash with APOEL in December, since which he damaged his knee on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations.[LNB] Watching from the stands: Essien with Ashley Cole at Chelsea's clash with Inter Milan last week[LNB]The 27-year-old said:'I'm in at 9.30 every morning and I don't leave untilfive and that's seven days a week. I'm spending lots of time in thepool as that's a good way to help the healing.[LNB]'I washoping to be back available for the home game against Inter but thehealing has taken a bit longer than expected because my knee keptswelling up.[LNB] Eye for goal: Essien scores against APOEL in December[LNB]'In two weeks I ended up having four lots of surgery to try and get the fluid away from the area.[LNB]'Finally it seems to be okay and I am making progress.
