Chelsea skipper John Terry lands whopping new Stamford Bridge deal

John Terry has become the joint highest paid player in the Barclays Premier League after signing a bumper new deal worth £160,000-a-week to see out his career with Chelsea. The new five-year contract puts the Chelsea and England skipper on a par with Robinho and comes on the back of the summer-long saga surrounding a potential move to join the Brazilian at Manchester City. City were ready to offer Terry £200,000-a-week to move to Manchester but Terry is adamant he was never tempted by the huge sums on offer at Eastlands and denies using their interest as a bargaining tool to land a new deal with Chelsea. Terry will be 33 by the time the deal expires and will earn at least £40million if he stays at Chelsea for the full term of his new contract. A statement on confirming the deal on the club’s website read: ‘Chelsea is delighted to confirm that John Terry has signed a new five-year contract that keeps him at the club until the end of the 2013-14 season. This reaffirms both John’s and Chelsea’s long stated desire for John to be at Stamford Bridge for the rest of his playing career.’
