Chelsea set to sign French Starlet?

According to many sources in the French press Chelsea will sign the French wonderkid, Kurt Zouma, for a fee of around £18.5 million before the end of this January transfer window. The young Frenchman has previously stated his desire to play in the Premier League but also saying he ‘only has eyes for Chelsea’.

He is a 19 year old centre back currently playing in Ligue 1. He has widely been touted as a future star and is already a regular for Saint-Etienne. Jose Mourinho clearly has a lot of faith in the youngster if he is willing to splash almost £20 million on him. He is an aggressive and strong centre back who isn’t afraid of a hard tackle, but he also has lots of composure on the ball and the speed to help recover from any mistakes made by himself or his team-mates.

With Terry in his mid thirties Chelsea are looking for a long term replacement for their club captain, and Mourinho sees Zouma as a perfect fit to lead them for years to come, from the heart of their defence. Although he is lacking in experience at the moment, playing regularly alongside a quality centre back such as Ivanovic or Terry could help him develop into one of the world’s best - alongside the likes of Thiago Silva, Hummels and Ramos.

The towering defender has played a total of 51 games for Saint-Etienne. He has many plaudits, with the current French manager Didier Deschamps stating that he see’s Zouma as a future captain of the French national team. He was also named by the Guardian as one of their ‘10 next big things in 2014’. So clearly he has a lot of talent with the potential to become a big star on the world stage in the future.

Zouma would be Chelsea’s third big signing of the Winter transfer window after spending a rumoured £15 million on Mohammad Salah and another £22 million on Nemanja Matic. These signings show that once again Chelsea are willing to spend to help secure themselves a fourth Premier League title and why, alongside Manchester City, they deserve to be favourites for the coveted trophy.
