According to reports in the Metro Chelsea will try again for Bayer Leverkusen forward Andre Schurrle at the end of the season – and are ready to throw winger Kevin de Bruyne into the mix to get the deal done.
The Blues failed with three different bids to land Schurrle in the summer but remain big fans of the Germany international, with a summer move now in the pipeline.
Chelsea’s technical director Michael Emenalo, who works closely with Roman Abramovich on transfers, has recommended the club go all out to sign Schurrle, despite the Blues not having a permanent manager in place for next season.
According to reports in Germany, Emenalo is poised to offer around £10million for the 22-year-old, and is prepared to throw in Belgian sensation De Bruyne as part of the package.
De Bruyne joined Chelsea from Genk in January 2011 but has never played for them, instead spending this season on-loan in Germany with Werder Bremen, where he has impressed.
The winger admitted this week he is unsure of his future at Stamford Bridge, and it’s thought that Chelsea will now use him as bait to bag Schurrle instead.
Leverkusen had previously valued Schurrle at around £25million, and he has a contract with them until 2016.
