Chelsea set to move in for proven Premier League striker with surprise 15million bid

Jose Mourinho's Chelsea are 'definitely interested' in signing relegated Queens Park Rangers English striker Charlie Austin according to reports in the Metro today.

Bookies made the West London club favourites to land 25-year-old Austin before betting was suspended on the QPR striker joining London rivals West Ham.

Austin's goal scoring antics last season have seen a number of Premier League clubs show interest in a move but Evening Standard reporter Simon Johnson is sure the player would like to remain in the south of England, ruling out a move to potential suitors Liverpool and Newcastle.

Johnson has also said that the strikers £15million valuation has put off Crystal Palace, leaving a trio of clubs – Southampton, Chelsea and West Ham – in the running.

Chelsea see Austin as a replacement for Loic Remy, who is likely to leave Stamford Bridge this summer, citing a lack of playing time for any exit.

This is something Charlie Austin will have to think about if he is to make a move to the Blues With Radamel Falcao also rumoured to be joining the club Austin could find himself as a third choice striker, which is not what he wants as he looks to push on from his recent England call up.
