Chelsea plan John Terry talks as Manchester City plan third bid

The captain returns for pre-season training with Manchester City having had two bids for the 28 year-old rejected. A third offer is anticipated but Chelsea and Ancelotti insist that Terry will not be sold – a stance reiterated by Chairman Bruce Buck – and the defender has three years left on a contract which is worth £130,000 per week. Chelsea seek 'marquee' signing Chelsea feel there are no grounds to renegotiate that contract, despite Terry being offered far more money by City, but the club may enter talks if it is what he demands. In essence, Chelsea have put Terry in the position that if he is to be sold he will have to state that he wants to go – and force his way out of the club – which could require a written transfer request. Terry is understood to be interested, to some extent, in City's offer but is also torn because of his loyalty to Chelsea. The club have also reacted angrily to suggestions that they have not kept Terry fully informed and that the defender wants to hold 'showdown' talks with Roman Abramovich. Chelsea continue to work on delivering what Buck termed a "marquee" signing for Ancelotti and remain hopeful that they may secure Franck Ribery from Bayern Munich. Also returning to training on Thursday, along with Chelsea's England internationals, is Andrei Shevchenko. However his agents are holding talks with Fenerbahce over a move to Turkey. Chelsea's Portuguese contingent return on Friday with Deco and Ricardo Carvalho also hoping to leave.
