Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti announces Yuri Zhirkov signing
Speaking at his first press conference at Stamford Bridge, the Italian said: 'Zhirkov, (Daniel) Sturridge – these are Chelsea players.'
As for Zhirkov's role, Ancelotti added: 'Zhirkov is naturally on the left. I think he can do all the work and can play in defence and in between.'
However, the former AC Milan manager refused to confirm Deco and Ricardo Carvalho would be leaving west London despite the pair being heavily linked with Inter Milan.
'Carvalho and Deco are Chelsea players,' he said.
'If in the future a player wants to go they have to speak with the club and we take the right decision for the player and for us.'
Ancelotti looked relaxed facing the media for the first time in his new role and despite struggling with his English at times, was even able to share a joke with his inquisitors.
When asked if he was going to be truthful with the English media, after admitting in the past he had not necessarily been so with their Italian counterparts, Ancelotti laughed and said 'I don't know.'
'We will have to know. I like to joke sometimes.'
