Chelsea looking for Spanish magic in Sergi Roberto

Chelsea are looking to reform their midfield with the prospect of Sergi Roberto.

The Champions of Europe have been pleased with Oriol Romeu, who signed from Barcelona last summer. Chelsea have been closely monitoring the progress of Sergi who is an ex team-mate of Romeu.

Andre Villas-Boas was eager to sign the midfielder before Christmas and, regardless of the manager's departure, Catalan newspaper Sport states Chelsea are still very interested.

Chelsea could potentially bid up to £6.5million but all of their inquiries have been refuted so far.

Roberto has hardly featured in Barca's first team but new coach Tito Vilanova has plans to include him next season as Seydou Keita is expected to leave during the summer.

If for some reason Keita stays, Barca could be persuaded to let Roberto go on a deal which would contain a buy-back clause, similar to Romeu's £4.3m deal last summer.
